Junior School Curriculum

In Junior School girls study a broad and exciting curriculum of 14 fast-paced subjects.  Subjects such as Science, Art, Music, Drama and Design Technology are timetabled every week and girls study a variety of languages, with Mandarin taught in Key Stage 1, Spanish introduced in Year 1 and French from Year 3.

We place great emphasis on practical learning and problem solving, encouraging girls to be inquisitive, exploring topics to gain greater understanding, and to think for themselves.  We aim to instill an enthusiasm for knowledge which will support and enhance their learning as they progress through school.  Topics are brought to life through inspirational teaching and exciting trips.  From our Reception girls learning about sea life at the Aquarium to Year 3 finding out about the Romans at Fishbourne Palace, trips help to fire the imagination and add an extra dimension to classroom based learning.

We are particularly proud of the specialist teaching provided in JuniorSchool which sees age and subject specialist teachers deliver subjects such as Maths, Languages, Science, Art and Music.  This specialism, combined with the best mix of traditional and innovative teaching methods, underpins an approach which drives accelerated progress.

While league tables of SATs results show only a fraction of the girls’ ability, assessing girls in a small proportion of the 14 subjects they study, we are justifiably proud of our pupils' achievements in these national assessments.
