South East Lacrosse

On Tuesday 17th January, the U15A Lacrosse team took part in the South East Schools Invitational Lacrosse Tournament at Surrey Sports Park. This tournament plays host to some of the top Lacrosse playing schools in the country, and the standard was incredibly high with lots of exciting play throughout the day.

In the pool play, Guildford played with intensity and maturity and beat St Swithun’s 4-0, LEH 3-2 and Caterham 5-4. This placed them top in their section and took them through to the quarter-finals where they beat St Paul’s Girls’ School 4-2. In the semi-final, they faced a familiar adversary in Surrey County rivals Putney High School. Guildford were drawing 1-1 at half time, but despite some excellent defensive play, Putney were too strong and Guildford lost 1-3.

Guildford might have been down, but by no means out. The play off for third place was still at stake and this match was to be against Benenden School. After the first half, GHS were down by one goal but the team rallied together and off the back of some stellar draw controls and good shooting, they were victorious at the final whistle. Third place at this tournament is a promising result for the team and will give them some much needed momentum for the upcoming Nationals Schools’ Tournament after half-term.

Special mentions go to Georgia and Dylan for being excellent captains for the tournament and to Sophie who was voted the GHS ‘Star Player’ of the Tournament. It was an excellent team effort and the girls should be extremely proud.
