Chamber Music Concert

The Brass Ensemble, alongside quartets and trios made up of the finest piano, string and wind players in the school performed at the Chamber Music Concert on Monday 27th February in The 2016 Hall. Chamber music has been described as “a musical conversation” between the members of the ensemble; not only does it require a substantial amount of practice time, but also a good understanding of each other.

Without a doubt this was achieved by all the ensembles that together put on a truly special concert filled with the highest quality music. A wide range of musical styles were covered from the Classical music of Crusell and Ries, through Romantic works by Mendelssohn and Brahms to the 20th Century music of Fauré. To finish the evening off there was a virtuosic performance of the somewhat comic Grand Fantasia by Malcolm Arnold for clarinet, flute and piano; a rousing way to finish off a superb concert!
